Previous College Experience
Success network for students with previous college experience. Faculty members serve as academic advisors for students when they are finishing their first year as a college student and when transferring to Grand View. Students are typically assigned an advisor based on their program of study, which provides the student an opportunity to learn from the faculty's expert knowledge in the field of study and the major curriculum. Students who have not yet declared a major will be connected to a faculty member who can provide guidance in selecting a major. Once a major is declared, a faculty member in the major area will be identified to serve as the academic advisor.
While being assigned to a faculty advisor, the other members of the success network are available to help you on your path to academic success. Your participation in the success network will directly impact your success experience at Grand View.
You can enhance your experience by:
- Meeting your academic advisor and getting acquainted early in your first semester.
- Discussing your goals and posing questions or concerns you may have.
- Becoming familiar with the general education (core) requirements and your major requirements.
- Visiting with your advisor when you experience academic difficulty.
- Consulting with your advisor if you would like to change your completions plan, course schedule, or major.
Drop-In Advising
While each student is assigned an academic advisor, all students also have access to drop-in advising for the following services:
- Dropping/adding a course
- Changing major/minor
- Checking progress and requirements for graduation
- Understanding transfer credits
- Assistance identifying appropriate campus resources (counseling, accessibility services, financial aid, career advising, etc.)
Students can make a drop-in advising appointment on Navigate or contact Rebecca Muntz at rmuntz @ grandview.edu.
