Bruce Bro Elected to Grand View Board of Trustees

November 14, 2024

Bruce Bro has joined the Grand View University Board of Trustees. Co-founder and President of the National Foundation for Danish America (NFDA), Bruce Bro has been active in the Danish American community his entire life. A third generation American growing up near Elk Horn, Iowa, he proudly claims a Danish heritage with a heavy “Jysk” flavor.
In 2019, Bro co-founded the NFDA to raise awareness and support for the Danish American community. The NFDA aims to provide opportunities for Danish Americans and their clubs and organizations to network, coordinate, share and collaborate to preserve and promote Danish culture and heritage in America. This includes regular working relationships with hyper-local organizations and leaders all the way to the American Embassy in Copenhagen, and the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C.

Since 2020, Bro has served as U.S. Vice President of the Rebild National Park Society. Rebild continues to host the largest 4th of July Independence Day celebration outside the United States. Bro works with local U.S. Rebild Chapters to promote the annual festival and grow membership including fundraising and grant support. In 2022, he received the “Top Karen Prize” for Danish American service at Rebild. In 2023, he received the “Mayor for the Day” award for Danish American service presented by the Danish American Club of Aalborg, Denmark. Through this connection, President Rachelle Keck was honored to serve as the U.S. keynote speaker during the 2024 Rebild celebration in Denmark.

In 2023, Bro organized and led a Denmark “discovery tour” for Grand View officials. The business tour served to reconnect with the University’s Danish ties, establish new relationships and develop global opportunities for students and the University. In 2024, Grand View was able to return to Denmark, this time inviting friends and alumni along for the experience. These trips included meetings with officials in government, business/industry and education including Grundtvig Church, National Cathedral, Danish National Museum, HC Andersen Museum, University of Southern Denmark, Aalborg University, Rebild festival, and personal meetings with former Minister of Education Bertel Harder, and the Vejle Business College.
