Students Invited to Participate in Research Mentorship Project

January 9, 2025

Dr. Adriana J. LaGier, Professor of Biology at Grand View University, is partnering with the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder on an exciting new initiative: the Research Mentorship Project. Grand View is one of just ten universities selected to be part of this important project, which aims to evaluate and enhance the mentorship experience in Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).

The project’s goal is to better understand how undergraduates perceive mentorship in CUREs and to develop strategies that improve faculty mentoring skills. The hope is that these improvements will help make CUREs more approachable and rewarding for students.

Dr. LaGier's involvement in the project stems from her long-standing commitment to providing research opportunities for Grand View undergraduates. Her CURE project, titled “Elucidating the Role of Vibration in Changing Cell Shape,” plays a key role in fostering student development. Through this project, students gain critical thinking and communication skills by conducting their own original research in cell biology. Each student is responsible for creating a unique research project and sharing their findings through an accessible deliverable hosted on an Open Science Framework (OSF) depository, allowing stakeholders to engage with their work.

This partnership underscores Grand View’s commitment to providing meaningful research experiences that prepare students for success in science and beyond.
