July 15, 2022

Governor Kim Reynolds announced the 19 recipient schools of the Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship Pilot Grant Program, which she unveiled during her Condition of the State Address in January. Des Moines Public Schools has been selected. Grand View will partner as a preferred resource for students and paraeducators to go to for reading about the educational options we provide.

Lindsay P. Grow, Ed.D., Associate Professor and Education Department Chair at Grand View says, “Grand View is honored to be one partner with DMPS in the Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship grant. This program will assist in addressing Iowa’s teacher shortage while providing a creative pathway to teacher and paraeducator licensure.”

Iowa's Registered Apprenticeship Programs help employers create a reliable, continuous pipeline of highly skilled workers while helping talented students jump-start rewarding careers. The Teacher & Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship Program is a new grant opportunity that provides opportunities for current high school students and adult paraeducators to earn credentials all while learning and working in the classroom.

The Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship Pilot Program grants will serve more than 1,000 paraeducators and students in 134 schools ultimately creating over 500 new paraeducators and 500 new teachers. Of these, 110 recipients are creating the first-ever registered apprenticeship programs in their schools. A total of $45.6 million will be granted towards the program.
